Shira Friedman-Parks's profile

Portfolio: Shira Friedman Parks

My name is Shira Friedman-Parks. I'm passionate about transforming preexisting art and text into something new.

This is some of the work I've done as Senior Arts & Layout Editor of Wilder Voice, an arts & lit mag at Oberlin College:

*photos and writing submitted by other students

And two recent passion projects:

Projects
sparknests: text art of epiphany and rebirth; a glint in the eye cumulated into a nest

rainfall ball-chain: scanner art (right page) reshaped into rainclouds (left page)

watermelon on film: film roll visualization of a repeating watermelon photo, representing childhood joy, in coordination with a meditation on childhood internalization of religious shame

fibonacci's andromeda: fibonacci spiral of the andromeda galaxy (six hour exposure, taken by another student; reminiscent of sweet potatoes) in conjunction with a short fiction piece

portal: multimedia portrait (front cover; right) morphed into an infinity mirror (back cover; left)

fall specimens: 15 monotypes (submitted as part of a collection), reconfigured & collaged into a grid to depict trees, wildlife, and the cityscape in their transition from fall to winter

fox & the little prince: Recreated illustration from The Little Prince using a drawing module in python (original on the right)

soiree: collaged mini-zine of a house(hold item) party, retouched and posterized in Photoshop

About me
I do editorial design for Wilder Voice Magazine at Oberlin College, where I'm working towards a BA in Sociology. I'm passionate about accessible design and learning how to best utilize design for human wellbeing and comfort! In my free time, I like to curate playlists, collage, and read.
